Adventure Time

This past week and a half have been a slow one for me; I kept saying I want to write and publish a new blog entry every week. The thing is I keep getting this feeling that I didn’t know what I should write about. It was some really bad writers block, that almost had me depressed. Then I was working some back to back night shifts, so my body was just tiered after some point last week. It wasn’t until Monday that I felt myself getting my groove back. Then it hit me.

It was a just like any other Monday; it was regular, but one thing was different. I wanted to get out of the house and go somewhere. Usually on Monday’s especially if I have the day off, I am always just lying in bed to try to recharge my body. On this Monday something was different, maybe it’s because I was in such a good mood. So, what did I do? I do like any other young adult at this time… I call my best friend. Since she’s moved back home, I haven’t been able to see much of her, so I wanted to try to pull her out of the house. It was just to my luck that she had to come into the city to do some work for her grandfather which also meant she gets to run around the city with me.

Let me tell you this little secret about my best friend; she hates the city. Almost every time that she drives into the city or thinks about it, she sits there and makes a face. You can clearly tell her dislike with driving in the city. I mean I guess I can understand; well it’s not like I drive. I always hear the stories though, and plus I was born and raised her so every complaint she makes I’ve actually heard them before. Okay, so me and Nafi decide to meet up at her grand-fathers Boys & Girls Club. Well that’s what was supposed happen, but I got distracted by the beauty supply store, so it took me a little while longer.

I have a quick question to ask it’s for both my guys and girls, do you all every feel like your outfit is missing one important piece that will just pull it all together so perfectly. So, if you had the chance to go get that important piece you would do it right? Okay see I knew it wasn’t only me who had these problems. I ended up being at the beauty supply store a little while longer than expected. Then I got a phone call asking where I was, so I gave Nafi the directions to where I was. I waited in the beauty supply store and extra 10 minuets to give her some time. Then I realized she wasn’t coming over there.

At this point I am mad, pissed even! “If you have a car with you why would you make me have to walk all the way to you when you can drive.” As though thoughts continue to echo in my head only making my temper grow, so I just decided to walk across the street to where the bus stop is to just sit and wait. I was actually planning to leave her if she took to long. If you couldn’t tell it was a lot going on both sides that day. Next thing I know I got a facetime call from Nafi and guess where she still is…inside of the Boys & Girls Club. She said I thought you were walking down here, I said what would make you think that if I gave you directions to my location. I had a feeling that crap would happen.

So, after about another 20 minuets waiting on this girl, she finally shows up ! I swear my best friend doesn’t know what it means to not keep people waiting. She is never on time for anything, and it’s been like that as long as I can remember. She finally showed up and we were off. I really had wanted to try out this frozen yogurt spot that I had found. Unfortunately, they were closed. So instead we decide to go to this place called Tacos El Chilango. It was on V St. about a block away from U St. When we arrived to the location Nafi actually couldn’t find the spot, on the other hand I saw where it was. The outside of the building wasn’t a showstopper, it looked almost like a regular corner store if you were driving by. As you walk into the door you start to hear the music that’s playing, and see seats lined against the walls. When we arrived, it was actually packed inside and to our knowledge at the time we didn’t know they had a patio, so we decided to sit at this two-seater. Plus, you don’t sit down and order either, you order your food then find a seat. So, like I stated we didn’t know there was a patio so while one stood and ordered her food the other watched the table to it wouldn’t be taken.

I ended up ordering some spicy chips and guacamole, the Campechano, and a margarita. Nafi had ordered the Pollo Tacos, simple and to the point. As our chips and guac came out from the kitchen you can actually look at them and watch them smash the avocado up that turns it into the guacamole. They served the food in these paired black bowls that has carvings of animals on them. It was really cute. Nafi’s food had come out before mine so I had to wait a little longer. When she was given her food, it came on a paper plate, but the smell of the tacos filled my nose with such an amazing smell it made me want my food even more. After about 3 minuets my food came out, and boy was I excited as ever. The Campechao tacos were filled with chicken and carne al pastor.

I added a little bit of the spicy guac to my tacos and after that the rest was history. These tacos were so full of meat that they had to double the tortilla that they put them on so it wouldn’t rip when you tried to pick them up. Each of us had 3 tacos each, and they were very full. I can say this the cooks do not hold back on the ingredients. After I took my first bite it tasted so good, not as spicy as I would like it to be, but once you got to the part of the taco where the spicy guac was then it kicked in. I also topped my tacos off with salsa Verde, it is an amazing sauce that does give your food a little kick. That’s if you like spicy food. After we finished our tacos Nafi ordered some to go and then we decided it was time to move to our next location.

As we both got in the car, we started craving ice cream, so we decided to go and find a nice ice cream shop to get something from. We ended up finding this Gelato spot not too far from where we were. It was about an 8-minute drive. The name of the shop we went to was called Dolci Gelato. I got excited when I saw the word Gelato because when I was over in Barcelona, I loved eating their Gelato. It didn’t matter which spot you went to it tasted amazing and so fresh. I know I wouldn’t get the same taste and texture here in the United States as I would in Barcelona, but I was excited, nonetheless. I went in and was looking around and someone by the name of Mr. Dellaccio walked up and asked if I needed help. He let me try an assortment of flavor of the gelato it was so fun. I tried the chocolate which I am not a big fan of because I don’t really like chocolate anymore. Then I had the White Chocolate Raspberry which was interestingly good. It didn’t taste like chocolate I tasted more raspberries than white chocolate. Then I tried the strawberry and mango which could never do any wrong. So, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and get not only strawberry flavored but also the white chocolate raspberry flavor as well. While I decided to get my best friend the caramel flavored one since she does love the flavor. I can definitely see us going back to this place again.

Monday was such an adventure and change from how my normal Monday’s go. It was almost refreshing to be able to be so active and get so much done with my best friend. We haven’t spent any time together lately just us to. So, this best friend day that we had was so much fun, it made me remember why Nafi was my best friend. Its days like this that sometimes I wish time would stop so we could just enjoy ourselves more. Then again, I think that’s okay because this is how our life will be soon. As entrepreneurs we both have the same amount of motivation to become a better us. So, this was just a little preview into what our life will be like, and I can say I’m ready and excited to go to that level.
