Everything Happens During a Full Moon
Howdy guys! Yes…I said howdy; its’ been a while. Well, it always feels like I am neglecting you guys. So, today I’m about to tell you guys how my second meet-up went with the DMV Anime Club I am apart of. Well, before we get to that I just want to get something off of my chest. Unconscious it may be, but every time I decide to leave the house for a night out on the town there is always a full moon in the sky. I have no idea why that is, but I just recently realized this when I went out this past Sunday night. Now that we have the setting, lets dive into the real juicy stuff.
I have a question; I mean you guys can answer it in your head but it’s a serious question. Do you guys like horror movies? If we are talking about myself then I would have to say NO! If you are reading this and thinking oh, she’s like a scared cat. Well sometimes yes, but that’s not the reason I don’t like horror movies. If you guys haven’t noticed already, but a lot of scary horror movies are based on a lot of curses and involve spirits and demons. Well I don’t like the thought of playing with the spirits. Also, I am very good at sensing the energy in a room, and I do believe that spirits and demons are real so I would rather not test them. But I stepped out of my comfort zone this time. You guys would be so proud; I went to see countdown.
Two Sunday’s ago, once I got off of work I met up with Kennedy and Michael who are also a part of the DMV Anime Club. We had decided before-hand that we would go and get some ramen before the movie started. I had no problem with this because as you guys know I love ramen. We had gone to a place that I had never been to before, and I was honestly really excited to see how this place would compare to the other places that I’d gone. Also, because I am no longer eating chicken or beef, I would be trying something completely new. The name of the ramen shop that we went to was named Kofuku. It’s a good size shop right beside the Nando’s in Gallery Place Chinatown.
As we sat down and started to look at the menu, I was stead-fast when it came to searching for something that had a seafood or shrimp base as a ramen. I finally found what I wanted to order after about flipping through the menu for a while. In the end I ordered the Fire-Cracker Tempura, and the Sankai Shoyu-men. The Sankai Shoyu-men was filled with shoyu based paitan, topped with shrimp and scallops, bean sprouts, scallions, fish cake, and much more. While Kennedy decided to keep it simple and get the Shio Butter-men; yes, if you can tell by the name this ramen is filled with salt flavored broth, butter, pork chashu, kikurage mushrooms, bean sprouts, and more. This was the most basic ramen that couldn’t go wrong; Kennedy’s words not mine. While Michael ended up getting the usual that I would get if I still ate chicken. Yes, he ordered the Spicy Miso-men, this ramen was packed with spicy miso paitan, pork chashu, bean sprouts, scallions, bamboo shoots, and much more. Along with him ramen, Michael also ordered the Ra-yu buns, which are pork belly steamed buns with a spicy mayo sauce.
The Fire-Cracker Tempura had a sweet and savory flavor. Before that when you see the tempura being sat down on the table the tempura has a golden color to them. When you bit into one of the pieces of shrimp it had a nice crunch to them, but it wasn’t too crispy to the point that they tasted burnt. Honestly when I first tried to pick up the shrimp with my chopsticks, I was honestly struggling a little bit. Not because I don’t know how to use chopsticks but mostly because the shrimp was so slippery with the sauce on it, I couldn’t get a grip. After failing at grabbing the first two I tried to pick up I started to get frustrated but when it came to piece number three, I had finally gotten the hang of it. After that it was a wrap, I started tearing down that tower of shrimp like I was a building demolisher.
After about a while I started to add some of the firecracker tempura to my ramen; honestly because the combination was so good. But first I need to tell you about this bowl of Sankai Shoyu-men; the broth was thick, and jam packed with flavor. The noodles were very thin, and honestly that was a first for me. All the ramen that I have had previously the noodles were thicker but not as thick as udon noodles. With the noodles being so lightweight it made it easier to pick up more noodles at a time. Also, as you look at the noodles you can clearly tell that the broth had seeped into them. The best part about the noodles in this bowl were that they were easy to eat, and it wasn’t too much chewing that was needed. The shrimp that was in the broth already tasted so amazing paired with the noodles; but honestly, I could’ve just drunk the broth with the shrimp and been happy.
From the vibe and energy from the shop, to the great food, and the good service at Kofuku they definitely left a long-lasting impression on me. I would definitely go back for more!
Now that we got a chance to dive into the food business let’s talk horror movies. Like I mentioned earlier I don’t like them all that much. Especially those horror movies that like to play with spirits and demons. Nevertheless, I agreed to go to see a movie named Countdown. Now if we are being honest, I didn’t know that it was a horror movie until after I got my ticket. Yes, I know what you’re thinking…why didn’t you look up the movie? I honestly was just excited to go hang out with some members from my club and eat ramen. When it came to the movie, I wasn’t all that worried about it; plus, in my head I was thinking that the movie would be interesting because of the name. Well trust me the movie was definitely interesting.
I am not going to tell you guys about the movie or give out any spoilers, but I can tell you this. Even though this is a horror movie that plays with fate, life, death, spirits, and demons, I can honestly say I like that this movie did not show the demons face. Honestly in my opinion that’s what made the movie scarier to me. If you are thinking I didn’t have my face covered for the entire movie. Then you thought wrong and thank you for thinking so highly of me. Me and Kennedy had our hands covering our face for almost the entire movie. I would move my hand at some points to try to watch the movie but then other times it was a wrap, and all you heard was our commentary and laughter. I thought that this situation was hilarious because it was only three of us there and both me and Kennedy don’t like horror/ or scary movies. In the end we were able to make it through the entire movie without getting up and leaving; but if we want to be honest, I wasn’t going to get up to leave. I paid the money to see the movie so I will just suffer through it.
In the end it was a really great night that ended with a beautiful full moon at its highest peak. The full moon always seems to bring me out the house and gives me the energy to enjoy life. Being able to be around people who have the same interest as you are amazing. To feel like you’re not forcing yourself to be something other than who you are is the best feeling that anyone
can ever get. This was only my second meet-up with the DMV Anime Club, but unfortunately it will also be my last due to unforeseen circumstances. Don’t worry guys I will continue to give you all your dose of anime, manga, ramen, and much more.
This goes out to my other DMV Anime club members; I had a blast being with you guys. It was nice to be able to meet, hang out, and even befriend people who have the same interest as me. You guys showed me love and it was fun, but it seems as though this is as far as our journey goes. It may not be goodbye forever, but it is goodbye for now, and no matter what their will always be love.
