How do you feel about your hair?
Hey everyone, how have you been? You should know the routine by now, go ahead and answer out loud. Release all the work that you have done and accomplished throughout the week. Even the little things that you normally wouldn’t even think about. Now that you have released all the good and bad don’t you feel a little bit lighter? Now, pull it together and let’s get down to business.
Do you all ever have those moments where you are saying “UGH I just want to cut off my hair, it’s too much.” Well I have had those moments a lot especially when I was younger still trying to figure out how I liked my hair. The insecurities I had in myself reflected the styles that I chose as well. As I grew older, I begun to love my hair, I remember during winter break of my sophomore year in college I went in the bathroom and cut off all the pieces of hair that wasn’t curly. In the end there was a giant ball of hair on the sink and floor.
From that point I have been taking very good care of my hair, it is a love that started the journey to self-love of oneself. With that being said I’m honored, to say that I recently became a brand ambassador for a clothing brand that was created to help spread the love of the natural wavy, curly, coily, kinky hair textures. The brand is called AfroGirl By Hannah, and I learned about this brand through one of my ambassadors from Skye-Rose Designs. I noticed that she was an ambassador for them, and their gear looked dope, so as I went to look at their page, I saw that they were looking for more ambassadors, so I said why not try my hand out. From there I sent my application and crossed my fingers.
It wasn’t long until I got my acceptance; within a few days I sent my information and I received my welcome pack. Now let me tell you this was my first time receiving a welcome pack that I didn’t have to put any money towards. Now that is a whole discussion within itself, I want to have because I can play devil’s advocate with both sides. Now, back to the welcome pack from AfroGirl By Hannah, I was really excited when I got the package for two reasons. It came in this nice suede box with a logo on it in gold that said AfroGirl By Hannah. The package was so sexy I couldn’t wait to open it. The second reason is what I stated earlier that this was the first time I received a welcome pack for free. I felt as though I completed a great accomplishment, and now I feel as though I can no longer go back a step.
When I opened the package, it had this beautiful light powder pink wrapping paper, on top with a white envelope. When I opened the envelope, it was a thank you card written by Hannah the CEO of the company, she was thanking me for joining her on this journey to change the narrative for wavy, curly, coily, and kinky hair textures. Then as you pick up the wrapping paper you see two stickers, a clothing pin in the shape of a pink pic, a mask, and then lastly a tee shirt. I was so happy I was screaming every time I saw something different in the box. My cousin who was sitting beside me at the time was looking at me like I was crazy…well I was crazy happy.
Now, you may be thinking why am, I telling you this right now, well basically because as we all know by now, or should know by now that wavy, curly, coily, and kinky hair textures are not treated the same as others. There is a lot of pain inflected on those who are blessed with such beautiful textures no matter where they look. So, I was really excited to see a brand that was created to do the opposite and help create representation and love for the wavy, curly, coily, and kinky hair textures. It would have been wrong of me not to tell you all about this.
Well, folks that’s all for now, I hope that you all have an amazing weekend. Stride out and finish this day with a bang. I hope you all continue to stay safe, healthy, beautiful, and confident in the person you are. I love you all and will see you next week.
