A Night Out in Adam’s Morgan

Hey everyone, how are you doing? I know it may seem repetitive and you ask yourself why she always starts off her blog entries by asking us how we have been even though she can’t hear our replies. Well, that’s because I want you to give yourself credit for the small wins that you have face this week. You may have stumbled and messed up a few things, but you have been able to overcome each obstacle to be able to wake up today on this Friday. So, answer that question out loud and have a conversation with yourself, and give yourself the credit that you deserve.

Today I want to tell you about my night on the town yesterday. Me and my newly found cousin Kuisy decided to go out for ramen. You may be wondering what the newly found means so I will give you a short explanation. Recently there was an incident in my family which resulted in having an event, and at that event I saw someone who lived directly across the street from me. Now when I say directly across, I mean if I sit on my porch, I will see him on his. At that event we found out we were related somewhere down the line and here we are today.

Now back to the story, yesterday me and Kuisy decided to go out for some ramen. Now you all know me and how much I love ramen I’m basically an addict now. Well, Kuisy on the other hand has never had authentic Japanese ramen before so I said, as a foodie it wouldn’t be right for me to neglect this boy of this hardship anymore. After that I decided to take him to the place where I first had ramen Bantam King down in Gallery Place, but unfortunately, they were closed. So, I did a little research as any foodie would and I stumbled across this place called Sakuramen Ramen Bar. Now this bar was in Adam’s Morgan but when I looked up how to get there, I didn’t recognize the address, so I didn’t know.

As we made our way there, we had to walk about a mile from the station down to Adam’s Morgan. Now if I would have realized that’s where we were going then we would have taken the bus there. Either way the walk wasn’t that bad, and we made the most of it. For more on that you can check out my YouTube channel for all the embarrassing details. As we got to the restaurant, I didn’t know if it was outside seating only or what, so when I went in, I was shocked to see some people inside the restaurant eating. I guess being in the house for six month and going back out to see people back to their normal lives is still a bit weird to me.

We got seated immediately, and now let me tell you the set-up of this ramen bar is utterly beautiful. It looked truly authentic, then the utensils looked even better. I was glad that I made the choice to come there. Now as I looked at their menu they didn’t have as many options that I wanted, especially me not eating meat any more I at least wanted a seafood option. Either way I believe that the server we had was the owner of the store. To my luck I forgot to get her name or even a business card. When she came to the table, she was very polite and explained everything on the menu perfectly to Kuisy since it was his first time.

I had made a decision on what I wanted and so did Kuisy. Kuisy ordered the Shoki bowl and I had ordered the Sakuramen which is there signature vegetarian friendly dish. I also ordered some vegetable gyoza’s even though they didn’t have them at that shop the owner got in contact with the other shop they had a few stores down and got them delivered for me. I also ordered a side of kimchi but now that I remember I don’t think I ever got it. If you all know me, I can’t just go to a ramen shop and not get the dessert. So, I ended up ordering the Mochi ice cream. Both me and Kuisy had a cup of hot green tea as well.

As we sat and waited for our food which didn’t take long if I must say, we sipped on the green tea which had a very natural taste to it. In Kuisy’s words it wasn’t sweet enough, and if you want to be honest it wasn’t sweet. It was unsweetened, but it also tasted very natural to me which I loved. My opinion may be biased because I like both unsweet and sweet green tea, but I have to have my unsweet green tea hot it can’t be cold. After our little debate whether which one was better our food was at the table.

If you all have been a long-time reader of my blog, then you know I love spicy food. If you are just now getting here then welcome for one, and secondly, I love spicy food. So, we told the owner that we wanted our ramen at a level five, and when I tasted the broth it wasn’t spicy at all, but to Kuisy it was. Now that should tell you a lot about our taste buds because his eyes started tearing just from that level five broth. I asked for more of the spicy paste for the broth and purred the entire small bowl that she had given me. Now that was the spice I was looking for.

My ramen bowl was made with kombu broth with menma, corn, green onion, mushrooms, nori, and drizzles with their home-made fragrant oil. Kuisy’s shoki bowl was made chashu, bulgogi, seasoned egg, green onion, sprouts, nori, ninmiku dare, and four meats. I loved every inch of my bowl especially I after I added more of the spicy paste. The mushrooms were soft and firm, they didn’t get too soggy but had enough of the broth in it that it gave you a spicy kick that had tremendous flavor. The corn was flavorful as always, as well as the green onions. Overall, I can give my bowl a 10 out of 10 especially because I finished the entire bowl. Kuisy loved his ramen so much that he didn’t finish and ended up taking the rest back home. Now onto the veggie gyoza’s I know you all have been waiting. They were simply amazing, seriously I told her I wanted them fried and they did a great job at it. When they were placed down, they had an amazing golden crisp to them, but they didn’t look burnt. Then when you bit into one after dipping it into the soy sauce it tasted so blissful that each taste bud on your tongue would be satisfied. I don’t think that six was enough for me.

Now let’s talk about the mochi ice cream. I ordered the matcha and mango flavor, the plate when it came out was presented so elegantly. I fell in love with how well they placed the food, and it also came with grapes and an artisan cookie that had drizzled chocolate over it. Now also you guys if you know me you also know that I am not a big fan of chocolate. If I didn’t have to eat it then I wouldn’t, but yesterday I did indulge in it as I ate the mochi. I loved the dish but Kuisy on the other hand could not get with it. His rating was a 0 out of 10 for the mochi, but mine was an 8 out of 10. I like it but sometimes it does leave a distinct after taste that I’m not a fan of.

At the end of the day we both had an amazing time at Sakuramen Ramen Bar, and if you are ever in the area, I would definitely suggest that you stop down in Adam’s Morgan and eat there. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks for hanging out with me on this lovely Friday ! I hope that you all have an amazing weekend that will lead into an even better week next week. See you guy’s next week!
