A Night Out on The Town

Have any of you ever been to a live action concert before? If you have then you are a lucky one. I mean I’ve been before; but it was during my homecoming and those are the only concerts that I’ve been to before. Not saying that those don’t count, but it feels different going to a concert that’s sponsored by the school; than actually going to a concert by that specific artist. So, when I saw the message saying that I have been invited to join Nissan + BET Networks Mix & Versa featuring an intimate performance by Jacquees I was excited. I texted Nafi and Trisha so quickly to see if they would like to go with me.

Nafi had gotten the text message invite to the event as well but unfortunately it was a 21+ event and she doesn’t turn 21 until February. So Nafi couldn’t come with me, so I asked Trisha if she would want to come. I already knew that it was a 50/50 chance she would come since the event was happening on a Monday. I was shocked for her to reply yes, she would go but she said only after she finished her homework for her class. Which was understandable and something I couldn’t just say no to. The date was set, and the only thing left for us to do were figure out what outfit we wanted to wear.

As the weekend went by and Monday arrived, I still had no clue what I wanted to wear for the event. I didn’t even know what I wanted to wear for that day. You see every day I style different outfits and take photos with that fit on to post on Instagram. This also helps me with my styling skills and also build up my personal brand itself. On this specific Monday I seemed to be having some issues creating an outfit. As I sat down to watch my new anime show Hunter x Hunter a eureka moment came over me. I was able to create the outfit for the pictures that day thanks to some help from my sister Ashley. Also, I was able to create two different outfit choices for the event that night.

After all that thinking was done, I was able to start getting ready; well for the pictures of the outfit of the day I picked out. The makeup I was doing for that outfit was going to stay the same as the makeup I would wear out that Monday night. I had to make sure I took my time and blended everything flawlessly. I have to say I was very proud of my ending make up look. Soon after it was time to leave and go to Trisha house to start getting ready. By that time, I was so tired I didn’t know if I would make it through the night. So, I decided to take a little nap on Trisha bed while she did her homework. It was a win-win for the both of us.

By the time Trisha finished her homework and we finished getting ready it was about 8:00 and the event started at 7:00. We decided to be fashionably late of course. We were ready to leave out and hit the road. Unfortunately, Trisha is not used to driving in DC just yet, we ended up missing our turn to go through the park to get to Georgia Ave. So instead we have to take the long scenic route through the city. Which took longer than it should have been; if you are from DC then you know if you want to be quick and avoid traffic throughout the city then you go through the park.

We had finally made it, and what makes it better we had found the perfect spot for parking. We had made the hard choice to wear heels, so we didn’t want to have to park too far away. We basically didn’t want to walk too far. We were in line for only about 3 minutes and then security pointed us to the check in. To my surprise my name wasn’t on the list, but Trisha’s was. In order for her name to be on the list mine had to be because she was my plus 1. I realized that I had misspelled my name on the form, I stupidly left out the “x” in Alexis. My name was spelled Ale is on the list. I don’t know how I did it, but it happened. I had to show the woman checking us in my confirmation message in order to get in.

Once we made it inside the space looked huge. There were so many different photobooths there, plus the small arcade area that was there. Then the one thing that I thought was amazing; was the open bar. Meaning free drinks all night, doesn’t matter how many you get the drinks were free. To a bit of an alcohol lover like myself I was very happy about this development. As me and Trisha made our way over to the bar area it was so crowded and hard to get the bartenders attention. At some point people started to write down their orders on their phones and just showed the it to the bartender. The band that was playing at the moment was extremely loud, plus all the chatter of the people attending the event. On a Monday you wouldn’t have thought that many people would show up and show out.

After we received our first drinks me and Trisha decided to go and take some photos. As we were walking over there Trisha ended up see some photographers, and model friends that she knows. It was nice to be able to meet and connect with them. As we got to the picture area, Trisha wanted to take photos first. I went ahead and took her photos which were good, per usual. As I was taking her photos some photographers stepped up and started taking photographs of her as well.

As the area started to get more and more crowded with photographers taking pictures of Trisha, I started to have a small anxiety attack. It snuck up on me out of nowhere, a title wave of my insecurities started to flood my brain until I could feel myself starting to clamp up. I saw how much fun Trisha was having and I didn’t want to ruin the night so I pulled out my favorite prayer that helps me get peace of mind when I can’t get it on my own. As I said my prayer 3 times after each “Amen” I could feel myself getting calmer.

By the time I finished calming my nerves it was my turn to take some pictures. As I was taking them, I could feel myself being awkward. I have been working hard to find my angles and work on my posing. That is another reason why I am styling outfits every single day. At that point I was over taking pictures and wanted another drink. I needed to calm my nerves some more. As we are at the bar trying to get drinks, Jacquees comes out on stage.

Let me just make one thing abundantly clear; Jacquees is short. I know that me and Trisha are tall, but in my opinion if we didn’t have our heels, we wouldn’t have been able to see him from where we were standing. Luckily, we did have on heels, so we didn’t have any problems seeing his face. He ended up singing all of my favorite songs that he came out with. We were jamming! He only performed for about maybe 30 minuets and then he left again. I can’t complain though because the entire event was free.

After the performance we decided that it was time to give our feet a break. So, we decided to go look for a place to sit. Let me tell you guys about the patio area at Hook Hall. The fake grass that is outside is so soft to walk on with heels its crazy. If they had that grass over the entire Hall, then I wouldn’t mind walking around in my heels. We sat down for about maybe 10 minutes before deciding to go take some more photos.

By the time we got back over to the picture area it was more crowded than when we left. Trisha had said why don’t we do one of the other pictures stands which I didn’t have a problem with. The crazy thing was as soon as she said that spaces opened in the spot, we were in. So, as I started taking photos of Trisha this boy walks up to me and says you can use my phone to take pictures the camera is better. I was so happy because the camera on his phone was so clear. You could’ve probably counted all the pimples on someone’s face. So, it was finally my turn to take photos, again I was off to a bit of a rocky start but then I started to feel more comfortable. Unfortunately, by that time Trisha got distracted and I didn’t get to finish my pictures. Which I unfortunately can never get too upset over because she always does. In the end, I still yelled at her though.

After my little tantrum we went to the other photo booth she spotted. Those pictures had a countdown, and I messed up the first time because I kept moving. By the second one I had the hang of it, after Trisha took her photos, we took one together. By the time we were done taking pictures we both decided it was time to go. The thing was we still had drinks in our hand, and we couldn’t just throw them away. So, we sat there and drank them; well more like I drank them because Trisha needed to drive. By the time we were done they started to shut the event down anyway; which made our timing perfect.

I had a blast going to this event ! I am so happy that I can now go and do all of the networking events that I’ve been wanting to do. Then being able to share this experience with Trisha who is like my sister was so much fun. Being the tallest females in the event, having eyes on you weather you want them or not. Yes, it is a nerve wrecking thing that can trigger my anxiety, but it also gives me a thrill. The performance by Jacques was simply splendid, I enjoyed myself to the fullest. I can’t wait for the next event that I go to!
