Dee’s Torch Eatz Food Plate Review
Hey everyone, have you been well? This time I made sure to come back to you guys in a reasonable time. I didn’t want to have you just sitting around pondering the thought of when I would be posting a new entry. Have your states or cities opened back up yet? In Washington, D.C. they decided to move the reopening date until June 8th. So, I have been home just like you all, unfortunately due to COVID-19 my job has had to close.
Today I have food review for you, and this time it’s from a close friend of mine business. She is also a co-worker of mine as well, but recently she has started a food service. She comes out with a weekly menu and creates dishes that can be ordered for pick-up or delivery. I recently ordered a crab-cake sandwich with fried cabbage and mac and cheese.
So, let’s start off with what came on the sandwich; there were tomato’s, rosemary, onions, pickles, and had a spicy tater sauce on the side. The size of the crab-cake was what you can call huge. Before I had the chance to open the plate of food, I could have predicted that the crab-cake was going to be big since the weight of the plate was heavy. Since we are already talking about the crab-cake we will just continue onto the review. As I stated earlier that the crab-cake was of a large size, there was also an overwhelming amount of crab meat inside of the cake. The first time I tried to take a bite of the sandwich as a whole, I can say that I struggled with it.
So, then I decided to cut it in half and eat it that way, at one point I just started to eat the crab meat with my fork and with just the tartar sauce as a compliment. The crab-cake meat was cooked perfectly. The outside of the cake had a slight crunch but not too hard, then the inside was like I said jammed packed with crabmeat that was cooked perfectly. It was also seasoned very well; and it wasn’t too overwhelming. Overall, I can say that I actually really liked the crab-cake. Since I ate the tater-sauce with the crab-cake I would like to give my opinions about it here as well. First off, I would like to say that I am usually not a big fan of tater-sauce, I actually find it disgusting. Now that that has been said Dijon, I love your tater-sauce. It was spicy but also sweet and had me ready to dip the crab meat in it for more. It says something that I was upset that I finished the sauce before I could finish my crab-cake.
Next, we will move onto the fried cabbage, and first off, I want to say that I believe this my first time tasting fried cabbage like this. Upon my first bite of the cabbage I noticed that it had a sweet taste. Even so, it left you with a slightly bitter almost like sour taste that lightens the sweetness of the cabbage. It is very much like a contrast of flavors that play off each other well. The cabbage was very easy to chew, also it wasn’t too soggy nor too crunchy. In the end I did like the fried cabbage.
Lastly, we are going to talk about this mac & cheese, and I am going to say I was a little disappointed in myself when I ordered it because I am in the process of trying to give up dairy so that would include mac & cheese. On the other hand, I am glad that I did order the mac & cheese, it was not overwhelming with cheese which I appreciate, because in the first place I’m not much of a cheese person. It just doesn’t sit well with my stomach, no matter how much I want it I always end up with a bad stomach sickness, plus I have lactose intolerance as well. It was a baked mac & cheese and I was really impressed at how the noodles on the inside were still soft and the outside had a nice crunch. It was a pretty light crisp layer on top of the mac & cheese. It was actually good, and I have no complaints. Sometimes I’m not able to finish a portion of mac & cheese that I get, and I was able to finish this portion with no problems. I was actually pretty proud of myself.
If I am giving an overall rating of this dish as a whole, I would say it was definitely worth the money and the wait. The dish was great, and I enjoyed every portion. I am very proud of my friend and I can just see by supporting her business and purchasing a plate that she will go far. Her food is very good, and if you are in the DMV area, I would recommend that Dee’s Torch Eatz be in your mind when you think about ordering food.
