Sister, Sister, an Unbreakable Bond

Happy Friday! Welcome back family I hope you all have been well these past couple of days. You all may be a little shocked to see that I am back again so soon, but I did tell you all I would be. I have officially gotten a charger for my laptop, so I no longer have a reason to leave you. Now back to the basics, you all know the routine. For all of our new readers I would first like to say welcome to “A Tall Life Blog.” Here I dissect my life and experiences from the perspective of a 6’4.5 woman. I talk about many things but in the end it all goes back to living a tall life. Since, we may have some new readers here with us I will be breaking down how we start off our conversations.

First off, I ask, how everyone’s week went. Yes, I know that I cannot physically hear any of your responses, but I do this for you not me. I have realized that unloading the week that you had is very good technique for not only your mental health but your physical health as well. Next, I ask you all to congratulate yourself for all the wins that you have accomplished this past week. Regardless if they were small wins or big wins. A step no matter how big or small is still a step in the right direction. My goal is for you all to see all the amazing things that you were able to accomplish during the week. Sometimes we aren’t able to see all the amazing things that we do because we are so on stuck worrying about the chaos clouding the skies above us. Now that I have explained the routine, it’s now your turn to do these steps. Take a five-minute break from reading and answer these questions and give yourself the pat on your back that you deserve. The only recognition that you need is your own, never look for it elsewhere.

Now that we are done unloading the week lets dive into the story, I have to tell you all this week. As mentioned in my last blog entry, I told you all that I would be telling you about the time I spent with my sister the last week of 2020. More specifically I want to tell you about the one night we had out, which was on New Years Eve. If we want to be even more specific, I will be telling you all about the dinner that me and my older sister went to at her fiancé’s restaurant that he is a chef for. My mouth is watering just thinking about the dinner that we had. Let’s dig in guys.

I am positive that I told you all that I no longer eat meat that walks on land. For example, I do not eat beef, pork, chicken, lamb, goat, basically no meat that crawls on land. On the other hand, I do eat plant-based foods, seafood, or just vegetables. Now that I have refreshed your thoughts lets dig into the delicious dinner that me and my older sister Kyra (I won’t be using her real name) had. We originally left out because we were going to just pick her fiancé Jackson (I will not be using his real name) from work. After five minutes had passed, Kyra suggested we have dinner at the restaurant since we were going out after. I had no disagreements, I actually thought that her suggestion showed much validity. After another 30 minutes went by, we both were finally done getting dressed and got on the road.

Now let me tell you something about driving around St. Mary’s county during the night…its really dark. Coming from the city where there are streetlights everywhere to being on the road where there is only a streetlight within every mile. IF THAT! It seemed as if we were driving straight for hours because it was so dark. We passed nothing but trees, and after a while there was no one else on the road except for us. As I started to feel anxious my sister told me to take over playing music, and I believe she did that to calm down my nerves. Which I am forever thankful for.

I noticed that my sister was slowing down, so as I pick my head up from looking at my phone, I noticed a big sign that said Pier 450. I was slightly confused for a second, so I turned to my sister and said why are we at the pier, and she responded… “that’s the name of the restaurant.” After that I made a really goofy face because I was so baffled at myself for not realizing something so simple. We got out of the car and headed inside the restaurant, and as soon as we walked in, I heard greetings towards my older sister. I realized that she must frequent the restaurant for his co-workers to know her name. After the greetings were done, she let us choose between sitting in the dining room area or the bar. Since I am very indecisive when it comes to these decisions then I let my older sister choose. After we were seated in the bar area we were greeted by another server who seemed to be on good terms with my sister. He gave us the menus and explained some of the best dishes and drinks for me. He was also very understanding when I explained to him my eating limits.

After a few minutes of looking at the drink menu I decided to order a “Sweet Matilda” and my older sister Kyra ordered a drink that wasn’t even on the menu. When Kyra did that I was in shock, in my head I’m thinking “She the WO-MAN!” As we told the server our order Kyra’s fiancé Jackson came out to greet us and reassured me that he would make sure he would make my food with all my food the specifications in mind. After that he headed by to the kitchen, and no longer than 15 minutes later our food came out. Let me tell you it was definitely a site to see, as the smoke left the plates of food that was placed so beautifully.

As soon as my plate hit the table, I was ready to dig, in but as I look over at Kyra’s plate, she had some surprises for her. I wasn’t upset especially because she decided to share with me. I know you all are ready to find out what was on my plate. So, make sure that you have your napkins to wipe your mouth and something to drink to satisfy your thirst after this intake. Now, I want to tell you all about the side dishes before I get to the main dishes…you ready?

First, I tried the mashed potatoes which were very creamy yet had a really fresh taste to it. You were able to taste the chucks from the potato that didn’t want to be mashed. They also put some of the potato skins in the dish which gave the mashed potato’s extra flavor. The next thing that caught my eye was the asparagus. As I picked it up the asparagus, I was a concerned that I wasn’t going to be able to bite through it, mostly because if it is not cooked the right way you cannot bite through asparagus. So, you can say I was rather surprised when it was so easy to bite through the asparagus. Plus, on top of that it was well seasoned, it still had the natural crunch to it as well. I learned a little while ago during a health class that if your vegetables are cooked to the point, they are soggy you are no longer getting any nutrients from them. I was very satisfied with the asparagus.

The next and last vegetable that I ordered was the spinach, and I’m sure that you all didn’t know but I love spinach. I love spinach more than I love lettuce, and I actually don’t like lettuce at all. I am more of a spinach and cabbage type of girl. The spinach that I ordered was soft but not soggy to the point of losing all its nutrients. The seasoning on the spinach was so delicious I almost asked for seconds. There were so many spices I fell in love, then after you swallowed the food, you were left with a soft sweet taste on the tip of your tongue.

That’s it for all of my side dishes, so how about we finally divulged ourselves in the main dishes. As I mentioned earlier Kyra had gotten some surprises on her plate and one of those surprises were some coconut shrimp. Now listen I love coconut but not too much of and I have yet to taste coconut shrimp where I wasn’t overwhelmed by the coconut to the point you couldn’t even taste the shrimp. Kyra on the other, she isn’t a big fan of coconut shrimp at all, so she just gave them to me to eat. The coconut shrimp tasted so fresh that you could still taste the coconut, but it didn’t overwhelm you either. The outside breading had the fresh taste of coconut embedded inside. The outside breading was crispy but not enough to the point it was hard to bite or chew. You had the great combination of coconut and shrimp lead you to a great sweet tender crunch. The shrimp was cooked beautifully and was seasoned perfectly. The meat was tender and soft to eat, which paired greatly with the breading.

Kyra also had some crab balls on her plate as well, being the loving big sister, she is, she decided to let me have one. I was actually really excited because as you all know I love crab cakes; it is my go-to when eating seafood. The outside of the crab ball was very crunchy, but it didn’t overwhelm you, because it led you to the inside that was full of soft and tender meat. The crab meat was seasoned very well, you never got any overwhelming taste. Simply delicious.

We haven’t even gotten to the main dish; can you guys keep eating? I had to ask myself this question about three times during dinner. Can you imagine what my drink was looking like? It took me even longer to finish since the food put me into such a trance. My original main dish that I ordered was the salmon. If you all didn’t know, I grew up not liking fish that much. Every time I ate fish, I would still feel like I could taste the ocean, and I didn’t like that. Since I stopped eating meat, I have had to find alternatives to certain foods, and explore the foods that I said I would never eat. So, I decided to try the making salmon, and after the first time I made salmon I have been eating it ever since. It was simply amazing, so I had very high hopes for the salmon dish that I ordered. To put it bluntly, it SO TASTY! The salmon skin was had this delicious crunch to it. Then once you got to the inside there was a soft tenderness that seemed like it was drowned in this sweet glaze. In the end from the view Kyra it seems like I swallowed the salmon whole. It was too good, not to finish my entire plate. I was left feeling full and ready to enter the new year on a great note.

I want to thank you all for coming with me on this trip down memory lane. Before the week I went to see Kyra, I hadn’t seen my older sister in what felt like years. I had an amazing time when I was with her, I didn’t realize how much I missed being with her until I got to her house. This was just one of our many adventures that we took while I was staying her. I hope you enjoyed our New Year’s dinner at Pier450 as much as we did. I would definitely recommend that you all go and visit this restaurant. It has a beautiful aesthetic that would make anyone feel beautiful and full of joy. I am sure that the menu there rotates each week so you will be able to find something new each time you go. Go enjoy life at Pier450, and I will talk to you all again soon! Bye my loves.
