The last hurrah!

Hey everyone, I hope you all have been well during this last week. To all the new readers here, first and foremost welcome to A Tall Life Blog. For our regular readers let’s get down to business. As usual go ahead and give yourself a pat on your back for all the things that you were able to accomplish this past week. Try to think hard about all the obstacles that you’ve had to overcome, the goals that you set for yourself. Give yourself props for all the things that you’ve accomplished. Now that you all have released all the stress, and accomplishments you should be able to feel a little lighter.

Today I want to tell you all about this new revolving sushi restaurant that is in Gallery Place Chinatown, Washington, D.C. Then we went to escape room that wasn’t that far away from the restaurant. Keep in mind this is my first time at the sushi place and my first time going to escape room. Overall, I was really excited about this night out on the town we were having. This was the last time we would all hang out together for a while to we wanted to end it on a good note before we all went back to grinding hard. First things first let us get our belly’s full so that we have enough energy to go and play.

So, as you all know due to COVID-19 there has been many shut down’s as well as many re-openings. At this point it has gotten pretty confusing trying to keep up with what is open and what is closed. This night, we were supposed to go ice skating but apparently you have to get your tickets at least two days in advance. That really put a dent in our plans because we were all pretty excited about going. Next, we were trying to decide between Dave and Buster’s, and these two different trampoline parks that I can never remember the name of. As you can clearly tell we did not go to either of these options. We all decided on escape room, and since I was the only one who didn’t eat yet…I was left in charge of picking where we would go.

As you all know, or if you are a new reader here and didn’t know, I love sushi. Well, to be more specific I love Asian cuisine, other than my own heritage, Asian cuisine is my top 2. So, I reminded them about the time I told everyone about the revolving sushi bar. Now, one thing about my friends Mary and Hunter. They love Asian food as much as I do, honestly if the food is good, they love it. Tammy on the other hand, it took a little bit more convincing, she explained to me how it was out of her comfort zone. I was not shocked because again, I am a bit different than other people you would meet my age. My interest is different in just about everything from fashion to food and everything in between. So, once again I couldn’t be upset with her because everyone is different, but in the end, we were able to convince her to try it.

Since I was the one that decided on the restaurant, I had the honor of downloading the app and reserving us seats. This was really important because we honestly didn’t know if they were open and we wanted to make sure we had seats. There were two reasons for this, one of them was because we had already paid for our escape room, so we had to there by a certain time. Next, was that it was rather cold outside this night, so I didn’t want us to just be standing outside the restaurant in the cold. Even though it seemed to happen anyway….

Our wait time was number 12 in line; we waiting until it got down to number 4 and then decided to get out of the car and walk down to the restaurant to see about the table. When we got to the restaurant there were a group of people standing outside the restaurant too. I was in shock because I saw that they were recently closed, so the hype about the restaurant must be true when they told me it was always a line to get inside. So, as we were waiting outside looking around, I asked the group if they wanted to see if we could get sat earlier since we made a reservation. No one disagreed with my suggestion, so we all went inside, and thankfully we were able to be sat right away.

As we were walking to our booth all I could do was admire the set-up of the bar. From the outside looking in you would not have expected the restaurant to have as much space as it did. In the end we got sat at this cute little booth near the front door. Before our server left, she explained to us that we order our food from the screen that was hanging on top of the conveyor belt. That is also where the menu was as well, but before we started ordering food everyone went to the bathroom to make sure our hands were clean before touching anything. No matter where we go, we always have to make sure we are staying safe and healthy.

Once everyone was back at the table, we all one by one, and maybe with a little help from one another ordered our food. It was so much fun and so much food that was ordered it is hard for me to remember specifically. In the end I can tell you we ordered more than 10 plates of food, but that doesn’t include the rice, the udon bowls, and the fried calamari bowls either. As I mentioned earlier the rotating bar was closed but the conveyer belt was still working, and that is actually how we got our food. No human interaction, just your food flying to you on the conveyer belt. It was not only cool, but I found it to be very safe and efficient when it came to dealing with this pandemic.

Now, let me tell you what I got, as best as I can remember. I got two plates of the real California crab meat rolls. I just want to say one thing about these rolls…you can actually taste the freshness in the crab meat and also there is mayo. As someone who isn’t supposed to be eating dairy, I went against my body this day in so many ways just to indulge in my favorite sushi rolls, and for new ones I never even tried before. Overall the California rolls were really good to me, if there could be less mayo used then that would be amazing too. I also got a crispy rice cake with crab mayo as well. I have never had something so good in my life. I believe I had an orgasm as soon as I took a bite into the rice cake. It was so good, then paired with the crab meat on top the crispy rice cake was able to take away from the mayo that was used with the crab meat. I can give the real crab California rolls an 8 out of 10, and the crispy rice cake with crab meat a 10 out of 10. Those are definitely my new favorites.

If you think that’s all I ordered then you are sadly mistaken, that was only the beginning. Oh…did I mention that we all ordered the house sake too. Yes, we were getting lit this night, so we were really hungry trying to get something to soak the liquor in our stomachs up. The next sushi plate that I got was the spicy popcorn shrimp rolls, now those were amazing. The popcorn shrimp was actually really big compared to the size of the sushi roll. If you were to hear Mary talk about it, she would tell you that there are way too many fish eggs in this dish for her liking. In my opinion it was just fine. If you want to be honest, I didn’t even notice the fish eggs when I did eat the roll. I’m still not sure if that was a good thing or not, but I can say when I ordered my second plate that I actually noticed the fish eggs. For this dish I would give it a 9 out of 10. Only reason it’s not a 10 out of 10 is because to me I feel like the shrimp on top made it a little different to eat the pieces of sushi whole, something I had to take small bites of it. I guess you can say I’m either rather greedy or you can say that I’m not used to it. Either one if fine with me, I know I love food too.

Oh, this is just one little off topic side note I wanted to mention, those table booths were not specifically made for tall woman. Each time I got up and down I had to either try to push my seat back or the table up because my legs were long the space within the table didn’t allow me to just stand up easily. So, for all of my tall ladies I would like for you all to keep that in mind.

Now that our little commercial break is over lets’ get back to the food, the next dish that I ordered was the Shrimp Tempura Udon. I was definitely looking forward to the udon for many reasons, but I will let you know of one of them. Which was definitely because I haven’t had any udon since I got back from Barcelona, Spain. In the end I had to get it, my stomach wouldn’t allow me not to. Now let me tell you about the udon…girl…when that dish came down the conveyor belt you could see the steam coming out the side. That made me so happy. It came in a container that had a top on it then the soup spoon was in a bowl on the side. As soon as I opened the top the steam came rushing out of the bowl. You saw the shrimp tempura sitting so pretty at the top of the dish too. I was ready to dig in, so I grabbed my chopsticks, and spoon and dug in. I tasted the broth first and let me tell you, it was so flavorful I was excited. Next I tried the shrimp tempura; in my opinion I feel as though they should put the shrimp tempura on the side until the food gets to the table so that the customer can add it as they please. The only reason I say that is because the shrimp tempura breading was rather soggy when it got to me. I am not a big fan of soggy breading, and I believe that other customers would appreciate the extra thought towards their food.

Other than the soggy breading I enjoyed the shrimp tempura it was really good; it just would’ve been better if it were soggy. Next I had the noodles, and they were just as good as I remembered. The noodles were thick, filling, and long. After one bite of the noodles I was in love, they were really soggy, but they weren’t too firm to the point the they tasted hard. It was the perfect texture for noodles, and then once you mixed all of the pieces of the udon together it became an exceptional dish. I was officially full after I finished eating the udon, but I couldn’t leave on that note. I can give the udon a 9 out of 10 rating. Next, I ordered one more sushi dish which was the shrimp avocado roll, and from what I can remember I don’t think I ate those in the restaurant. I took them to go, so that I could eat the dessert that I ordered. Now if you’re wondering what dessert I got then hold your horses I was just about to tell you guys.

As far as the dessert goes, I got the one that made the most sense for me to get due to the fact I’m not supposed to be eating dairy. I ordered the soymilk donuts, that came with ice cream. Now, you all may be thinking how is that not dairy, well don’t forget the donuts are made from soymilk. I know that doesn’t mean much when portion of the dish has dairy in it. We’ll let me just tell you one thing, sometimes you have to take one for the team. This night I didn’t mind hurting my body a little to feel some good. Now let me tell you about those donuts, they were amazingly good, it was so soft on the inside and the outside of the donut had the perfect firm feeling. It wasn’t too firm to the point the donuts felt stale. They were actually really soft but not soggy even if they came out on top of the ice cream. In the end I can give this dessert a 9 out of 10.

In the end that was my meal at the revolving sushi bar, yep that was only my meal. You have to think about what else everyone else got. Now if you are wondering how I could order so much…isn’t that really expensive buying all that sushi? We’ll let me tell you guys something, my entire bill only came up to $50. That includes the liquor, the dessert, the udon, and the multiple plates of sushi I got. The sushi plates were only $3.00 each, the udon runs about $7.00, then I had an appetizer which was about $3.79 then on top of that I got a dessert that was about $5.00. In the end I don’t think I paid much at all for how much I feel like I ate. I would recommend this spit to anyone who loves sushi, Asian cuisine or anyone who wants to take a step outside their world. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in Downtown Gallery Place Chinatown is the place for you to go.

Now that we have finally finished our meal lets head to the escape room. The first thing I should tell you all is that we ended up losing time when it came to our escape room. Let me explain it a little bit more so that you all can understand what I’m saying. We ended up leaving Kura a little late, so if you are not on time to your appointment, they will start the time without you being there. So, when you get there you have to work with whatever time is left. Unfortunately, we only had 30 mins to finish our maze, and let me tell you we tried our best to get through the e room as fast as we could.

If you all are wondering why I am not giving more information on the room we went in, well that’s because I signed a form saying that I wouldn’t talk about the room on a public platform to make sure there were no spoilers. I can only tell you guys but so much, I apologize. As we were making our way through the room, we got most of the clues rather quickly, but that’s where we messed up. By us rushing we forgot to look in my most obvious spaces and got stuck on one of the very last parts. I am not going to lie I was very little help during this venture, only because I was feeling my liquor, I was just a bit to lit to take looking seriously. In the end we ran out of time, which was really unfortunate because we finally started to get close to figuring our way out.

Like I said in the beginning if we would have actually gotten there on time then we would have figured out the puzzle, but for the time we had we got far. It was still really fun to see everyone run around like a chicken with their head cut off. On top of that I got to see them get scared by the effects of the room too, which was really funny. In the end I really enjoyed the night on the town we had. We ate some good food and bonded over a game in the escape room. For my last night on the town in D.C. for a while I enjoyed myself so much. Looking back on it now, I didn’t know I would miss times like this not being in the city. I’m just so thankful that I can look back on these experiences and feel joy. I just want to say thank you to my close friends who came to spend time with me before I left. I will see you guys soon!

To all my readers thank you for coming and joining me as I remembered more special moments. I hope that you all have an amazing Friday, and weekend. I will see you all again soon. Love you guys.

Adios!
