What night life in DC is like since COVID-19…
Hey everyone, how have you been? I hope that you all have been staying healthy and thinking positively. First off, I would like to apologize because I told you all that I would be posting blog updates on Fridays now instead of Monday’s. It seems as though last week I didn’t portion my plate well enough and I wasn’t able to give you all the update on Friday like I previously promised. Well now that time has gone and passed the only thing, I can do now is give you all two blog entries this week. One today and one on Friday so that we can keep our schedule.
Now that the announcements and welcoming messages are out the way, today I want to give you all a slight update on what the DC night life now looks like since COVID-19 shut down the night life. Growing up in DC there was always something to do, and there was a time where the metro ran all through the night into the morning. Those late-night train rides with my friends will always be cherished. Now in 2020 the night life in DC has been cut short. The time that you used to arrive to the club is now the time the clubs close.
The way the club used to be packed wall to wall with people. You and your friends would complain about how many people are in the club and how you had no space. Yeah…those days are gone too. Bars and clubs are only allowed to have a certain amount of people inside their establishments. I actually saw the owner of the bar that me and my friends were at say that he couldn’t allow any more people inside and it was only 9:30 pm.
I know in your head you are probably thinking why you are even going out to bars and clubs during a pandemic. Well there are multiple answers that I could give you all but that needs to be saved for another day. I will just leave you all with this. My very close friend runs and host parties, she partners with different clubs to help promote their services. In the end she told me and our group of friends about it, so we all decided to go and support her. If that answer still doesn’t sit right with you then that I am not sure what to tell you. I won’t tell you how you should handle your emotions because who am I to say your emotions aren’t valid. Cats out of the bag so now let’s move on.
Now you should know before you even entered the club you had to have your temperature checked and mask had to be on your face. I feel as though that has become some type of weird norm that I don’t think I will ever get used to. I mean who wants to always have to get their temperature checked each time they wanted to go out. If you went inside there was a good amount of people, not crowded in the least. The vibe of the bar was nice, and the DJ was playing some really good tunes. By the end of the night me and my group of friends had a great time we were all just really shocked that we had to end the night at midnight.
In the end I can say that nightlife in DC is slowly reviving itself. Slowly but surely as different restrictions are lifted, and new ones are put in place DC’s night life is trying its best to navigate through it. To all the small black owned clubs in DC I hope that as things get better that you will be able to stay afloat during this crucial time for businesses. I hope that people who are host and promoters like my friend continue to assist these businesses during this time.
I just want to say thank you to everyone for coming and hanging out with me on this Monday. Happy Spooky Season and Fall! If you all do intend to go out and enjoy night life in your area, always make sure you are being safe. As my granny used to say a shot of apple cider vinegar a day keeps the mucus away.
This is Lucky Daniels signing off...Bye everyone !
